End the year strong with some of these truly sweet shows taking place in Vancouver this December. Call it an early Christmas present to yourself.
As ever, a disclaimer that music is subjective blah blah blah. This is my list, and these are the shows I’m excited about this month.
Mint is doing us right with the 2018 instalment on the label’s annual holiday extravaganza. Breaking with tradition by actually holding it in December, this year Mint’s event features Dumb, Lié, Woolworm, Faith Healer (solo), Needles//Pins, Energy Slime, Kellarissa, and Necking.
John. Fucking. Maus. Known for intense, visceral live performances — this one’s not to be missed.
The Jins’ brand of raucous indie-rock fits perfectly with this intimate venue. Give these local boys a proper send-off at this tour kick-off which also features Black Pontiac and Harley Small.
This is a truly rockin’ Saturday night with three shows that should cater to a range of tastes.
Headbang the night away with the legendary BISON (FKA Bison BC) as well as Pet Blessings and Teeth to Your Throat.
Regardless of your opinion of the reopened, revamped Railway Club, they have stuck to their commitment to live music. Fuzz fans should definitely head down for this show, headlined by Vancouver’s answer to the Truckfighters, Getaway Van.
Despite being at one of my least favourite venues, the killer double headliners ensure this one gets a mention. This is a hell of a bill and one post-punk fans should not miss out on.
Also taking place on December 15 is Keithmas, an annual fundraising event which supports the Vancouver Food Bank. This year’s show features good-time rockers La Chinga and Rich Hope at the top of the bill. 100% of proceeds go to the cause, and this often sells out, so get your tickets in advance!
The Philly singer-songwriter is back in Vancouver with his band, the Violators. This is sold out already, but where there’s a will, there’s a way.
