The Best Rock, Punk & Metal Shows in Vancouver – January 2018

New Year’s resolution? Go to more shows! Start the year as you mean to go on by checking out some of these sweet shows.

As ever, a disclaimer that music is subjective blah blah blah. This is my list, and these are the shows I’m excited about this month.

January 5 + 6

Bat Sabbath – The Cobalt

Over two nights at the Cobalt, Cancer Bats will transform into Bat Sabbath, a Black Sabbath cover band. Your choice of show may be influenced by the support acts. On the first night, you can catch Waingro and Woe Monger, and on the second, Dead Quiet and We Hunt Buffalo.

Red Fang – The Rickshaw Theatre

One of my favourite things about Red Fang is their videos, which are always a lot of fun. Catch these stoner-rockers with a sense of humour this month, along with BC locals We Hunt Buffalo.

Converge – The Rickshaw Theatre

The legendary band is on tour to support its recently released album, The Dusk In Us. Support from SUMAC and Cult Leader.

Queens of the Stone Age – Pacific Coliseum

YMMV, especially on the band’s more recent releases, but no one can deny that Josh Homme is a towering figure in the stoner/desert rock scene. The addition of Eagles of Death Metal to the bill means fans are sure to have fun.

January 27

Hygiene – Black Lab

Don’t miss Hygiene’s creepy synth-punk, as well as locals Pudding and Duck, and Itemfinder from Washington.
