Release date: August 1, 2017
Sore Points’ version of punk comes straight out of the 70s, complete with the snotty attitude and fast strumming of the Ramones. Even the EP’s title, Don’t Want To, reinforces the petulant vibe that runs throughout. That vibe also informs the band’s playing style, which is fast, loud and aggressive.
Musically, Don’t Want To (released on Hosehead Records) offers a more polished version of what we heard on Sore Points’ 2016 Demo. In fact, all four of the tracks on this release were also on the earlier record. While the demo was recorded in four days, the band clearly spent longer on Don’t Want To and the songs are the better for it.
Despite the seeming simplicity of the style (fast, Ramones-esque, three-chord punk), Sore Points’ EP manages to sound fresh and exciting. Rather than a simple going over of old ground, Don’t Want To is a gritty, genuine record in its own right. This band is definitely one to watch.
