PREVIEW: Needles//Pins – Good Night, Tomorrow

Release date: June 30, 2017

The upcoming album from Needles//Pins delivers top-notch, good-time punk rock. Good Night, Tomorrow contains 12 energetic, raucous tracks that will keep you engaged from start to finish.

Lead singer Adam Ess has the sort of gruff voice that makes you want to give him a throat lozenge but that sounds great — think Hot Water Music’s Chuck Ragan or The Flatliners’ Chris Cresswell.

Filling out the band’s sound are fun, high energy riffs and rhythms courtesy of Ess’s guitar, Tony X’s bass and Macey Budgewell’s drums. New for this album — Needles//Pins’ third — is Rain City Recorders‘ Jesse Gander on keyboards.

Good Night, Tomorrow was recorded with Gander at Rain City Recorders, during which time he became an unofficial fourth member of the band, although he won’t always play live shows.

Recently signed to Mint Records, Needles//Pins has created a more polished record this time around, showing growth from the band. The Vancouver trio (quartet, now?) also created its first ever music video for the track ‘Miracle,’ which you can watch below.

Alongside that progression, the band retains the best of its older material — catchy, melodic punk rock that knows how to get a crowd going. Thematically, Needles//Pins’ music recalls the nostalgic (North) Americana of The Gaslight Anthem or The Replacements. The lyrics are earthy and rooted, matching the robust, uncomplicated playing of the band’s instruments.

Good Night, Tomorrow by Needles//Pins is released on June 30, 2017. Order it on CD, cassette or vinyl from the Mint Records store, or stream/download it from Bandcamp.

See Needles//Pins live at SBC on June 30 at their album release party, supported by Woolworm, Sightlines and Alimony.
